Ir. Michel Janssen

Michel Janssen is a distinguished naval architect with a long-standing career at the Ministry of Defence (MOD) of the Netherlands. After obtaining his Master's degree in Naval Architecture from the Technical University in Delft in 1987, Janssen began his career at the Royal Netherlands Navy's Directorate Materiel. His roles have spanned from project engineer for M-class frigates to leading design and engineering groups responsible for the development of advanced naval ships, such as the Air Defense and Command Frigate of the Zeven Provincien Class.
Over his 37-year career, Janssen has managed significant naval projects, including the hydrographic research vessels Hr.Ms. Snellius and Hr.Ms. Luymes, and the patrol ships of the Holland Class. His expertise extends to systems integration and naval weapons systems, and since 2023, he serves as the Acting Deputy Head of the Department of Maritime Systems.
Highlighting his dedication to delivering custom-made, innovative maritime solutions, Michel’s often overheard stating that "there is nothing more beautiful than building a ship." Despite the inherent challenges, Michel embraces the complexity of his role leading the Dutch Naval Design consortium. He’s driven by the desire to ensure the project’s success through collaboration and creativity.
